Before creating any content, I would undertake research to figure out EXACTLY who I wanted to serve. The whole purpose on being on Instagram is to develop a community who connect with your brand and content. So ask yourself: what you want to achieve by using Instagram? Figuring out who your audience are is a key step - once you know you can curate the content and tone that speaks directly to them!

Define Your Brand Identity:

Before hitting that "Follow" button, lay the foundation of your Instagram account with a crystal-clear brand identity. Determine your niche, voice, and aesthetic.

What sets you apart? What value do you bring?

Optimization
I would make sure that the account is set up for success from the get go. Starting with a good profile pic, a clear, concise bio- think of this like an elevator pitch, how would I describe what I do to a stranger in under 1 minute?

Content Pillars
I would create a content strategy based on key pillars. Using the market research, I would curate 3-5 strong pillars that would ensure I never run out of content ideas.

When creating my first few posts, I would make sure to include an introduction and brand story post. I would create a content schedule that I could stick to daily, e.g. 4 posts per week every week for the first 3 months.

Community management
When on Instagram, I wouldn’t waste time by endlessly scrolling through reels or looking for ‘inspo’ - instead I would engage with accounts in my niche, my industry and start forging genuine connections and relationships.

Content mix
I would be creating high quality, engaging reels in order to maximise my reach and give my account that boost right at the beginning. I would mix this with carousels, story posts and make sure that I was providing value, entertaining, educating or storytelling with my audience. I’d be on stories, connecting with my audience, and adding to the value they get from my feed. I would treat stories like the light on my porch - if it isn’t on then people will assume no one is home!

Collaborate and Cross-Promote:

Leverage the power of collaboration to amplify your reach. Partner with influencers or complementary brands for shoutouts, takeovers, or joint campaigns.

Cross-promotion introduces your account to a wider audience!

Analyze and Adapt:

Regularly monitor your Instagram insights to gauge the effectiveness of your strategies. Identify which content resonates most with your audience and adjust your approach accordingly. Continual optimization is key to sustained growth.
